Kielo to develop educational facilities for the City of Helsinki in Herttoniemi

Kielo and the City of Helsinki have signed a long-term lease agreement for the Herttokaari property at Abraham Wetterin tie 4 in Herttoniemi, Helsinki. The agreement covers more than 8,200 m² of educational facilities as well as an outdoor area designed for school use. The lease term is 10 years.
Kielo will redevelop the property for primary education use by the City of Helsinki. The project will create a modern, safe and functional learning environment for approximately 650 pupils, with teaching scheduled to begin in autumn 2027.
The building previously served as premises for Stadin AO, Helsinki Vocational College, but will now take on a new role as part of Helsinki’s school network. The project demonstrates how existing properties can be given a new purpose while responding to significant community needs in a sustainable way.
The facilities will serve several Helsinki schools during their renovation projects between 2027 and 2037, providing suitable premises that enable uninterrupted teaching throughout the construction period.
The property will undergo extensive refurbishment and redevelopment works to create a modern learning environment for primary education. The project includes the enhancement of teaching facilities, upgrades to building services and safety systems, improved accessibility, and the redevelopment of outdoor areas to support school activities.
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to deliver this significant project together with the City of Helsinki. It is rewarding to see an existing property take on a new purpose and provide a learning environment that will support the everyday lives of Helsinki’s schoolchildren for years to come,” says Hanna Forsman, CEO of Kielo.
