Combining exercise with commuting is an excellent way to promote health and well-being at work. Kielo pays attention to details and provides high-quality services to make commuting by bike as smooth as possible for everyone.
Cycling is a great way to promote health and well-being, but its benefits multiply especially when used as a means of commuting to work. According to a recent study by the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health, the work ability benefits gained through commuting by bike are significant. The study found that in a workplace of 100 people, cycling could reduce up to approximately 500 sick leave days annually and prevent at least 11 long-term sick leave periods.
The popularity of commuting by bike has increased in recent years, especially with the rise of electric bikes. The residents of Jyväskylä have also noticed this trend. Kielo’s properties are located in the heart of Jyväskylä, and most residents live within biking distance of the city center. The smoothness of tenants’ bike commutes is promoted in various ways, without forgetting the details.
“In Jyväskylä, most of our premises have lockable bike parks that accommodate thicker tires and sturdy frame-lockable racks. The bike park at the Innova tower was so popular that we doubled its size last year. We also changed the direction of travel and made the entrance safer.” says Kielo’s concept manager Anna Väisänen.
A new lockable bike park was also built in Mattilanniemi last year. In addition, our tenants have access to common bike maintenance tools and a bike washer”, she adds.
Spring maintenance for bikes during the workday
Good equipment and additional services promote commuting by bike. It’s easy to hop on a bike when good storage facilities and refreshment await at the destination.
Kielo organizes a bike maintenance day for its tenants in Jyväskylä in collaboration with the local cycling club Jyps. This spring, the maintenance day was held at Mattilanniemi at the end of April. Jyps members maintained the bikes brought by tenants throughout the day and also changed the summer tires on Kielo’s own rental electric bikes.
In addition to high-quality storage facilities, functional social spaces enhance everyday smoothness. For example, in Mattilanniemi, tenants can refresh themselves with ready-to-use, free sauna facilities in addition to showers, and personal belongings can be stored in lockable cabinets during the workday.
Kielo’s electric bikes for loan are available all year round
Jyväskylä’s reputation as a cycling city is also reflected in tenants’ wishes. In Ylistönmäki, Mattilanniemi, and the Innova towers, tenants now have the opportunity to borrow the property’s electric bikes during the workday and cycle to lunch elsewhere in the city. Kielo’s premises near Jyväskylä’s city center are conveniently located along the popular Rantaraitti, from where you can quickly cycle to the city center.
“Free-to-use electric bikes have been popular, and we have now enabled their use in winter by fitting them with studded tires for the winter season. This was primarily a request from our tenants, as cycling is popular year-round,” Väisänen adds.
Recognition for Kielo’s promotion of cycling in Jyväskylä
Kielo has been promoting commuting by bike in Jyväskylä for several years, and this has been noted by the locals. In 2022, Kielo received recognition from the cycling club Jyps for promoting cycling in the city.
“It is important for us to promote workplace well-being. This spring, we are organizing events in Mattilanniemi and Innova, where we challenge tenants to exercise before the workday with a morning run. We offer participants the opportunity to network with each other or gather a group of exercisers from their own company. Participants are offered a sauna and breakfast as part of the event,” Väisänen concludes.
