Hybrid work is familiar at Nordcloud – comfortable premises are increasingly attracting remote workers to the office

With the rise of remote work in recent years, Finnish workplaces now employ various hybrid work models. Most people enjoy working at the office, even though they appreciate the freedom that remote work allows.

For Nordcloud, an IT company specializing in cloud services and consulting, hybrid work is familiar. Since Nordcloud employees may have team members working across Europe, hybrid work is a standard part of the company’s daily operations. “We all have colleagues from other countries and other Nordcloud offices in Finland,” says Henna Väisänen, the office manager for Nordcloud’s Jyväskylä and Kuopio offices.

Nordcloud’s office in Lutakko, Jyväskylä, located in the Innova 2 building, has successfully attracted remote workers back to the office. Excellent facilities increase the willingness to work on-site.

“At Nordcloud, we need premises that attract employees to choose the office over their home workspace. The premises must be sufficiently adaptable to serve multiple purposes.”

The effort has been successful, as Nordcloud has managed to get employees who prefer remote work to transition working on-site at the office.

According to Väisänen, there are three reasons for the return of remote workers to the office.

“Firstly, our current office is easily accessible by car. Here in Jyväskylä, distances can be long, and, for example, balancing family life and work is easier when you have a car.”

The second reason attracting Nordcloud employees from home to the office is the acoustics.

“We focused on ensuring that there is enough quiet workspace available for employees when designing this office. The current office has workrooms available, which guarantees a peaceful working environment.”

“Thirdly, I would highlight that this is a modern facility with healthy indoor air. This is not a given in many buildings.”

Even the IT Sector benefits from on-site work

On-site work holds great significance for Nordcloud. “People come to the office primarily to see their colleagues and because working at the office is generally smoother when, for example, snacks and lunch companions are available – and of course, lunch restaurants and other services are nearby,” says Henna Väisänen.

“You also get sufficient peace and quiet for working, which can sometimes be challenging to achieve at home if there are other family members around.”

On-site work has several advantages, such as the increase in tacit knowledge. “Natural encounters increase the spread of tacit knowledge,” Väisänen reminds. “It’s easier to ask a colleague who sits in the same room or at the end of the hallway about something that just came to mind. Usually, small things are related to a larger context.”

Väisänen appreciates the adaptability of the spaces in Kielo’s facilities. “In our office, we need to be able to hold both internal and external events, but also support the work of local teams. The most important thing is to provide sufficiently quiet spaces for independent work.”

Ease and comprehensive services help focus on work

In the IT sector, typical events include various networking events where people gather around a specific topic or expert. Therefore, it is beneficial that organizing such events is easy in Kielo’s premises.

“It is great that Kielo has the Fiilu lunch restaurant in Lutakko, from which catering can be ordered directly to the office or Kielo’s meeting and sauna facilities if needed.” The premises at Innova 2 support the operations of companies in many ways. “The key word here is certainly ease. Services work well, and everything needed is close by, so we can focus on work.”

In addition to lobby and meeting services, Nordcloud employees appreciate the location and parking spaces at their office. The office is accessible and close to downtown services.

“It is so effortless to be here nowadays. And if we ever needed a larger office, I feel that with Kielo’s help, we could easily move between premises or even to larger premises within the same building.”
